Updated! More Blades! And a whole new machine! Now you can have The Ninja Blender. A classic design with a difference. It has 6 blades and a really powerful 1000 watt heavy duty professional grade motor for even the toughest blending or processing jobs.

Have you seen the commercial for the Ninja Master Prep? I am an early riser. Sometimes while I'm poking around on the computer at 3 am i have the tv running in the background. Well, let me tell you, 3 am is infomercial time. It seems like every other channel is running an infomercial. One of them caught my attention a few weeks back. I saw someone making ice cream and salsa in seconds. I don't know why it caught my attention but it did. Maybe I was getting hungry. I don't know. What I do know is that I saw a blender slash food processor that really piqued my interest. I wanted one to add to my collection of kitchen appliances. So I went to Amazon.com and ordered one.

Why I bought the Ninja

A couple of years ago I bought a blender based on how well I thought it would do when it came to blending something like cooked cauliflower to make  imitation mashed potatoes.  Because of the disaster that turned out to be, the maker of said blender shall remain nameless.  It now resides in a cabinet cupboard under the kitchen counter gathering dust.

The Problem

A lot of what I read about making green smoothies said to buy the Vita Mix blender. After seeing the popularity of this machine, I was interested and decided to take a look. Sticker shock! I mean the packages (blender plus odds and ends like booklets, and dvd's) start at nearly $500. For a blender? Really? Who has that kind of money to spend on a blender?  I'm sure it's a wonderful machine, but frankly I can't afford that kind of money for a blender.  Can you?

The Answer

Which brings me to the Ninja Master Prep. A whole lot of blending power in a very reasonably priced package. The so called power pod (the motor), and 2 different sized containers, each with it's own blades and top, and each has it's own cover for storage in the refrigerator. Plus the booklet containing operating instructions, safety tips and a few recipes. It's sort of a hybrid between a blender and a food processor. Prices vary a bit, depending upon where you decide to buy, but never anywhere near the over-$100 mark.

Diabetes and Raw Foods

Recently I have developed an interest in raw foods. Mainly because having been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I know that I need to lose weight. After having done a considerable amount of reading on the subject, I concluded that green smoothies were going to become an important part of my new arsenal of dieting and healthier living tools. Green smoothies are a simple way to vastly improve my nutrition. Combining things like no salt added beans with some collared greens and maybe some blueberries is a bit like making your own super vitamin pill.  This machine has made it so easy to make a delicious and nutritious meal in just a few seconds.

How It Works

UPDATE! The new models of The Ninja Master Prep Professional have added a set of blades for the 48 oz. pitcher. Now the pitcher does its amazing work with 6 blades!

The unique thing about this machine is the quad blade chopping system. There are two sets of blades for both the 2 cup container and the 48 oz. pitcher. Pulsing the blender by pushing down on the large switch on the top causes food to be drawn down and chopped into whatever size you choose to make it. Size is controlled by how long you hold down the switch, or by how mant imes you pulse the machine. It is very easy to use. And it's fast. Really fast. You can puree most anything in just a matter of seconds.

A Special Treat - Home Made Ice Cream

Salsa, smoothies, ice cream.  Oh yeah.  Did I mention the ice cream?  You can make a really nice, smooth ice cream.  Healthy ice cream too.  A little frozen fruit, and some milk (I use soy milk) and you've got yourself a really refreshing fruit ice cream.  I don't add sugar either.  I frequently use frozen peaches with strawberries and/or blueberries.  Very nice.

Home Made Soup

I also use the Ninja in my regular cooking.  I had a thought the other day.  I like to make soups.  They're fairly easy and they are really good for you.  The home made kind, anyway.  Home made you get to control the salt.  Some of the commercial soups use a really unconscionable amount of sodium.  Several days worth in each can.  But back to my thought.  I decided to try using pureed beans as a thickener in my soup.  It worked!  The Ninja came through again.   And it adds flavor.  It's good for you too.  Beans are considered a superfood because of the fiber and some of the phytochemicals in them.  I used the pureed beans as a base for a really great chili too.

Salsa Too!

Do You Like Salsa?  You can make a truly homemade salsa in just seconds with this machine. A little tomato, some onion, chili peppers, cilantro. Pulse a couple of times and it's party time. Pass the chips, please!

Conclusion

To sum up.  I'm really glad I happened to see that infomercial.  The Ninja Master Prep is making a big difference in my life.  It's a great way to make your own healthy foods in so little time too.  I'm really glad I've got mine.  (I have two actually).  You've got to get yours!

I don't think I've seen these in Australia. Maybe they haven't reached here yet! They look like a good alternative to an expensive blender. I use one of those stick blenders, which are OK but you have to be so careful what container to use, or stuff flies everywhere.

They may be being sold under a different name there down under. The company that makes them is called "Euro Pro." If they are not there yet, then maybe through Amazon? Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Will it make smoothies, with a pureed quality, from hard raw vegetables like carrots as well as greens like spinach or kale?

It makes rather marvelous smoothies from those vegetables. I like to use collared greens, kale, no salt added beans and blueberries personally. I hope this helps. I'm planning on adding the new blender (the one shown right at the beginning next to the update)here at home. The new one has a 72 oz. pitcher. My present model has the 48oz pitcher.

This blender is a joke!!!! It doesn't seal, the thing is a mess. Go spend $100 on an American made blender. Support U.S.A. and spend a little more.

That has not been my experience at all.

I love my ninja. I got it for like $50 at Sam's club and none of the others I have ever used even comes close. My salsa and guacamole and frozen drinks are awesome.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the Ninja Master Prep and the Ninja 1100? I'm trying to decide if I should return my Master Prep for the 1100 but the 1100 cost $100 more. Is it just a size difference or is it actually a quality thing? Any input would help!

I think it's a size thing. The 1100 is a traditional blender with the power and blades of the Ninja.

Thinking of buying the Master Prep Pro as I like to make smoothies and frozen drinks. So far, 2 of my blenders - one expensive and the other not so expensive - have broken. Can this one really do the job?

Mine is still working after a little more than a year. Just always be sure that the top is seated properly. Those little nylon gears strip easily if you don't pay attention. It's a simple matter of attention to detail.

great review!

Our blender bit the dust a couple days ago and I really didn't want to get another crappy 30$ blender that ends up burning out or leaking hot soup all over the counter; however I had a real hard time dropping half a grand on a Vitamix or Blendtec. Then I happened to come across the Ninja in Bed Bath and Beyond and was intrigued. THe salesgirl wasn't too helpful so I made sure to review it online. I too am looking to use it for green smoothies and my concern was if the spinach and kale built up in a clump around the bottom blade? This seems to be a problem in alot of cheaper blenders but seeing as this baby has 3 blades, not sure if that was the case or not. I also want to use it for soups; do you make the soups right in the blender and then heat it up on the stove or is it similar to the VItamix in the heat from blending prepares the soup? THanks for providing such an informative review, cheers!
